Is this Scobez's sarcastic face? - Tad, the true FF Dummy
re: friendfeed's adolescence and indecision... is what you perceive as not knowing which way they want to go intentional? I've been thinking that way lately as a result of some of the things I've heard Bret Taylor say in conversations with Steve Gillmor and Scoble, and also Paul B. (EDIT:oops, sorry Ben G., not Paul B.) in the recent FFundercats podcast. Do they need to pick only one of the directions you've outlined? Might they just as well pick two or all three? - Jim Jannotti
Jim: they should build a platform that enables all sorts of weirdness and wackyness. They should never listen to the users. Why? Well, let's say I'm a Porsche owner. Now, ask me what I want. Let's see. Smoother ride. More leg room. Bigger trunk. Well, I just asked for a Volvo. - Robert Scoble
Tad: I wish I had time to do photomemes tonight. Sigh. - Robert Scoble
what if weirdness and wackiness are what we want? What if that fills a niche that no one else is filling? What if other social networks are not just narrow, but myopic? Or were you just being ironic? - Jim Jannotti
FriendFeed Lovers: You're doing it right! - chethan thimmappa
Scoble, don't you have a camera on your cell phone? mail2ff or pikchur will make meme cooperation more than possible - Rahsheen ™
There hasn't been many social sites that can capture & hold me for very long (beyond a month). If FF has done that (and it has) it is doing something right. This is the one for me. If you have a good understanding of how FF works, and you have done your part to try to participate by commenting & liking things, and friending people that share content you like, and it's not for you, oh well...go back to one of those ones I found boring. You'll be happier there. - April Russo
Jim, absolutely they could do a combination there in. I just wonder though if Paul and team know which ones though :-) I'm not saying they wont have an idea of direction, but I've heard Paul say before how FF has already gone in directions they didn't expect, so I see part of this as the site evolving. Still, ultimately you need to pin down your end game to hit the target - Duncan Riley
April, couldn't agree more. I spend more time here than any other service now, and like you I've never really been one to be easily captured - Duncan Riley
Rahsheen: that photo is of me showing an error message on Twitter. - Robert Scoble
Rahsheen: Jesse Stay took that photo right before I went into Twitter: http://picasaweb.google.com/je... - Robert Scoble
always ahead of the game Robert... - Robin
April and Duncan: I have a theory on why that is: because everything is decentralized here. The view, the moderation, etc. Very different from old-school BBS's. - Robert Scoble
I was just pointing out that participating in photo memes is super easy :) - Rahsheen ™
I still find it funny that I wore a friendfeed shirt into a pretty interesting meeting at Twitter. I should wear my twitter shirt into friendfeed just to be fair! - Robert Scoble
Rasheen: the photo seemed apt. Hit two memes: Scoble had the FF t-shirt on (which is how I found it in Google), and then the fail message on the iPhone tied into the "you're doing it wrong" part. Actually, matching like that isn't always easy. Hat tip to Jesse Stay on the pic as well (linked in the post with credit) - Duncan Riley
YES! Robert, you hit it right on the head. It's decentralized. I am one of those people that feel more comfortable in a chatroom on irc with an auto-admin bot that op's everyone than Myspace or Facebook, or even better, my own decentralized chatroom, hosted on my own PC, as part of a rogue underground P2P network. And I thrive in the middle of what some people would call chaos, disorder, insanity, or anarchy. (and I noticed that most that can't handle environments like that usually make the most drama) - April Russo
April, Robert agree to a point. It's a safer, more friendly version of IRC, but it does tap into those raw conversations many of us use to have there. - Duncan Riley
Why does it say that Robert Scoble has long since left FF? - Tanath
Nice job on this post Duncan, extra points for the cool Scoble photo! :) - Susan Beebe
I liked the Sarah Lacy quote. She says FriendFeed is being "myopic and naive" by relying on "bloggers" instead of "real people" to spread the word. If FriendFeed is to ever "go mainstream" you must appeal to hockey moms and Joe Sixpack, like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. (Of course Facebook started off only for kids, Twitter was originally for internal use only at Odeo, and LinkedIn only makes money by selling subscriptions to salespeople and recruiters, but I digress.) - Karim
Where's the evidence that it's being used beyond first adopters, I see no anecdotal stuff supporting the assertion. To the contrary the first adopters are taking up an even greater proportion of the space to sell product. No one in main street is using it, they're on facebook. - Donovan Slennon
Donovan, FB isn't particularly 'main street' either. People I went to high school and college are on it, but none of the 40+ people I know. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
Drilling down into her original blog post (http://www.sarahlacy.com/sarah...) she seems really upset that FriendFeed is not returning her calls or emails. How do you expect to ever become a success without sucking up to Sarah Lacy, FriendFeed? "This is not an ego thing," she assures us. But she has a show that reaches "millions and millions" of people and frankly you are all idiots for not taking advantage of that. </sarcasm> - Karim
Scobez: It only takes a minute or two to snap a pic and post it. :P :D - Tad, the true FF Dummy
Donavan, most of the people even responding on this thread aren't in my first adopters list. That's proof alone. Take a look at my friend list, you won't see too many tech types or first adopters in it. - Duncan Riley
Karim, I met Sarah at Gnomedex, I actually like her, although honestly I didn't think I would before I met her. It's a glib comment from her, and maybe a small part of the analysis is slanted because of it; but I didn't mention it in the post because I don't think its the underlying cause of her misunderstanding of FriendFeed. I really think, as I started in the post, that FriendFeed is the new Twitter in terms of being an easy target to pick on. Unlike Twitter in 2007, I don't think it's deserved with FF - Duncan Riley
And Donavan, you want further proof: look at the people taking shots at FF...the common thread is that they are nearly all first adopters themselves. This isn't a trendy first adopter site by any stretch. It may have been for 5 minutes, but most have gone now - Duncan Riley
yeah well the beginning to me sounded like her argument was "Louis Gray is so right" and FriendFeed is too complicated, it needs to be dumbed down for the masses if it wants to go mainstream -- then it turns into this WTF WHY WON'T YOU RETURN MY CALLS? I AM FRIENDS WITH ZUCKERBERG! DON'T YOU REALIZE I CAN MAKE YOU OR BREAK YOU? rant, at which point her business advice seemed a *touch* disingenuous -- to me, anyway. ;-) - Karim

"You're right, Charles -- the board didn't specifically deny that he was sick. But they did everything in their power to suggest that his health had nothing to do with him not giving his regular keynote, when clearly it did. And contacting individual reporters for off-the-record conversations hardly qualifies as disclosure." - mathew ingram

Your cat looks exactly like my old cat, any chance it's an undead cat you picked up from a pet cemetery near Ann Arbor around 1998? - Matthew DeVries
I think the FFholic stats are always a few days off. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
Mathew LOL - no, my cat was movie star on the Erie PA news... adopt a pet. We drove 2 hours deep into PA country to go pick her up from a shelter. She was a baby, lost, low on weight and needy of a good home. She's a Russian Blue cat with green eyes... adorable! - Susan Beebe
Susan: That's good, I'm not sure if I'd have had a duty to come and get her or something. I'd have to look up the case law. - Matthew DeVries
Matthew - I have the paperwork from the Shelter...she's all ours! We love her very much. She just turned 8 years old. The Shelter implanted a tracking chip in case she is ever lost / stolen. - Susan Beebe
Because you rock. Each of your posts is worth 10 of a normal FF. - Todd Jordan

"THE LOVE: "A gigantic heart made from latex. The aim of our project was to show heart - the simbol of love, showed mostly as sweet and red, in the other way. Because love is a very complicated emotion. Our avatar of the love is more naturalistic, sensual, obscure. Maybe even associated with pure erotic love but everyone can find it s own interpretation of this acting on imagination. "" - edythe via Bookmarklet

Slideshow: 50 Films that Influenced Men's Style: mensvogue.com

"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) Viewing this film today, Sidney Poitier's style seems sharp but far from revolutionary. At the time, however, his look carried a much more than a price tag. His classic Brooks Brothers suit registered as a statement of purpose, an African American asserting his status and equality. But a few critics argued that the look was also a cop-out, further confirmation that acting and dressing "white" was the way to get ahead. Nonetheless, Poitier became an icon, cited by actors like Denzel Washington and Will Smith as an inspiration." - edythe via Bookmarklet
This movie is fantastic, if you haven't seen it. Tracy, Hepburn and Poitier. This pic makes me think of Obama, too. - Jeanine Walters
Me too Jeanine - Mo Kargas
Interesting, in that this movie came out after "I Spy" which had Bill Cosby in a suit. Yes, black men wore suits then, but most of them were entertainers. People weren't really shown a professional black man in a suit. Also interesting considering the time the movie came out, was a special upheaval in black America and more "radical" ways of dressing were becoming the norm. - Anika Malone
