"His mother had often said, When you choose an action, you choose the consequences of that action. She had emphasized the corollary of this axiom even more vehemently: when you desired a consequence you had damned well better take the action that would create it." - Andrew Badera via Bookmarklet

Samsung LN52A550 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
Sunday at 2:26 pm - amazon.com - Link
So, I'm looking to by a new HDTV. When I went shopping, I liked the Plasmas WAY better than the LCDs. But it seems like most people get LCDs. Why is that? - Jeanine Walters
LCD's are better then plasmas imo. Plasmas chew lots more energy, take ages to turn on, suffer burn-in, and LCD's have better pictures. - Will Higgins
Plasmas now come EnergyStar, are simple enough to avoid burn-in on. I prefer the true blacks they have. Haven't heard of the turn on issue. How do LCDs have a better picture to you? - Jeanine Walters
I've compared some plasma/LCD's side by side. New plasmas DO suffer burn in, in situations like if you use it as a computer screen, which I do. - Will Higgins
Ok, I probably won't be using it as a monitor much, especially not at first. - Jeanine Walters
The 'turn on' issue is when you go to turn it on ( or wake it up, as it is ) It takes close to a minute to turn on. That may not sound bad, but after you push the button you wonder 'did I push it hard enough? Did it work? Should I push it again? If I push it again will it turn of the TV?' etc for a minute. Sometimes I just plonk down and want to flick on the TV. - Will Higgins
Yeah, that sounds like it would be annoying. - Jeanine Walters
My old man got almost that exact TV from abes of maine for <$2k. It really is a brilliant TV. I'm a big fan of the Samsung LCD's. The picture is nearly perfect. The blacks are just fine, and the image is so sharp it's crazy. 52" is a good size if you've got a fairly large room, and looks great with a PS3. - Will Higgins
52" should be just about perfect for my viewing area, with approximately 155" from the couch to that wall. - Andrew Badera
